With over thirty years’ experience as a residential and commercial builder, John Shurtz has a vast body of knowledge, and industry connections in the building industry. Since 1995 Mr. Shurtz, and his company, Green Builders of Marin, have been on the leading edge of the green building movement, transforming his company and the building industry in Northern California, bringing more sustainable practices - energy efficiency, resource and water conservation, renewable energy and healthy indoor environments - into the mainstream.
Mr. Shurtz’s expertise, commitment to the community, influence and passion are keys to his success as a leader in the green building movement. Accreditation from LEED, Green Point Rating and the Building Performance Institute all are part of what he brings to his consulting business, working with clients on specific projects. Likewise, this same body of knowledge is imparted in the courses he has developed and teaches at a number of institutions, from grade schools to trade schools, universities and city and county governments.
